 Ein Rindfleisch Burger enthält 2400 Liter unsichtbares Wasser. Das kommt daher, dass ein Rind sein Leben lang Gras isst und Wasser trinkt. Das Gras braucht zum Wachsen auch Wasser. Ein Hähnchenfilet enthält auf dieselbe Weise 683 Liter unsichtbaren Wassers. In vielen Produkten hat es Wasser, doch die meisten Leute wissen dies nicht mal. Wachsen die Rinder in Argentinien auf, fressen und saufen sie dort und wir verbrauchen mit dem Essen dieses Rinderfleischs indirekt argentinisches Wasser, also unsichtbares oder virtuelles Wasser. Vegetarier essen kein Fleisch und somit verbrauchen sie auch nicht so viel Wasser. Für die Erzeugung von einem Kilo Fleisch verbraucht man so viel Wasser, dass man damit ein Jahr lang duschen könnte.
