Our Grade 5 class joined the "Challenge your family" and "Selfie" expeditions to help us include our entire school, family and community. Each child received a water use log sheet for the weekend, on which they had to record their water usage. Some of the learners also included water that was "eaten" in the hidden water found in their meals, which was quite interesting. They then designed posters which were displayed at our school. The most useful information will be decided on within this week, and those posters will be displayed in shopping centres around our city, along with staggering figures of how much water we estimated to be used on a daily basis in Pietermaritzburg alone. Here are our calculations:
Pietermaritzburg contains a population of approximately 405 385 people. If each person uses 81 litres of water a day (which we calculated is minimal in reality), that means that we use 32 836 185 litres in a day!
