Wetland Walkway
Posted by Shea O'Connor Combined, South Africa on 3 December 2018

We were thrilled to have been in the top 6 teams for SA this year, the money that we won together with our Water Fest grant we put to good use and paid for a proper board walk across our precious wetland in the school grounds. As you can see from the photos, it was a struggle for learners to cross the wetland daily to access the toilets on the other side, especially in the rainy season. We enquired about sustainable options and found out about this very durable plastic timber that is made from recycled milk bottles that has been used all over SA for beach walkways etc. Finally the day came where our wonderful wetland walkway was installed! We look forward to Wetlands month in Feb.. to celebrate this little but essential improvement for the well being of our learners and our wetland!!!
